NJ, VA Victories Mean: Ending Obama's Presidency Early?

In Michael Steele's "victory" email sent out to RNC supporters today after Republicans Bob McDonnell and Chris Christie won yesterday's elections for governor in Virginia and New Jersey, he said Republican supporters were going to cut Obama's term in half next year.

Wow, that's a bold prediction. But wait a second, what does that mean? Knowing what I know about the U.S. system of government and the English language, I'm not sure it even makes logical sense. Here's the full quote from the email:

"With the continuing commitment of RNC Sustaining Members like you, I am confident we can elect more GOP governors, make real gains in the U.S. House and Senate, stop the Democrats' radical leftist agenda and cut President Obama's term in half in 2010."

Wait. You're gonna do what now to Obama's term? Cut it in half? Does that mean he won't be president anymore after 2010? How does that work? Anyone know what Steele's trying to insinuate here?

My guess is it has something to do with ratcheting up the Republican stonewalling of crucial legislation to help move the country forward (as if that could get any worse -- see health care, the economic stimulus, and now energy and climate change).

But there are certainly other more nefarious inferences that could be drawn from this vague and somewhat nonsensical pronouncement. I'll give Mr. Steele the benefit of the doubt, however, and assume for now that he's just talking about obstructing the important work of government on crucial issues that impact regular Americans across the country.
